MGMT set to tour & headline Santa Teresa Fest
At this exact time last year, MGMT was touring in support of their 2018 album Little Dark Age.
Well guess what? The guys aren’t done yet.
The psychedelic pop-rock duo has a string of North American tour dates planned for the month of May.
The tour is set to kick off in Oakland, California on May 2 and wrap up in New York City on May 24.
The Montreal area lucked out and scored the band’s only Canadian date, a headlining gig at the Santa Teresa festival in the suburb of Sainte-Thérèse on May 18.
Little Dark Age is the forth release by Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser, who make up MGMT.
The album follows the band’s previous records: their 2013 self-titled album, 2010’s Congratulations and their 2007 debut Oracular Spectacular.
Of these albums, MGMT is best known for Oracular Spectacular simply because it is spectacular.
The album spawned the hit singles “Time to Pretend,” “Electric Feel” and “Kids,” and earned MGMT multiple Grammy nominations and a win for Best Remixed Recording for the Justice remix of “Electric Feel.”
Oracular Spectacular also made Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 20 Albums of the Decade list.
Now MGMT is busy preparing for that solid month of touring.
“Spare time is a foreign concept to us,” Ben answered when I asked how swamped they get before a tour.
But they’ve got things under control. This obviously isn’t their first rodeo, as they say. Still, Ben admits that globetrotting isn’t always easy.
“I remember the first couple times we toured and we had no idea how to deal with time zones and jet lag,” Ben said. “We were in a zombie state for longer than we should have been and we slept all day and couldn’t at night. We realized that we have to take a couple days off once in a while and not do anything. We know better now.”
