Todd Lowe’s playlist

True Blood star Todd Lowe got his big prime time break on Gilmore Girls back in 2002.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is now on Netflix.

The revival, made up of four new 90-minute episodes, picks up nearly a decade after the season 7 finale of the original series with leads Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel resuming their roles as Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, respectively.

Other familiar faces welcoming fans back to the fictional quaint Connecticut town of Stars Hollow include Melissa McCarthy, Sean Gunn, Keiko Agena, Kelly Bishop, Milo Ventimiglia and Scott Patterson.

True Blood’s Todd Lowe also returns to his role as Lane Kim’s husband, Zach Van Gerbig.

Todd joined Gilmore Girls in 2002 and says he hasn’t forgotten that year in his life.

“The show basically launched my career. I was doing a lot of courier and food delivery work at the time that I auditioned for Gilmore Girls,” he remembers.

“When I got the part, I thought it was going to be just a couple days of work. The phone rang a few weeks later and they said ‘We want to bring you back for more episodes.’ Then my day job started getting in the way of my shooting schedule, but I was happy to let it go.”

Todd went on to star in over 40 Gilmore episodes from seasons 3 through 7 and life was grand.

“One of the greatest things about finding steady work on television was it got me out of debt. My student loans, credit cards and old water and power bills got paid off,” he laughs.

Then in May of 2007, the series was prematurely canned due to so-called negotiations issues and other studio drama.

Todd bounced back though. You know how it goes, “When one door closes, another opens.” Within a year, the actor landed his biggest role yet, the part of Terry Bellefleur, a tormented Iraq War veteran in HBO’s supernatural hit series True Blood.

“I really enjoyed playing Terry,” Todd says, “It was nice playing someone who was human on a show full of monsters. But then again, this human had a lot of his own demons, they were just in the back of this head.”

Todd’s part in True Blood was a modest supporting role like his former Gilmore Girls gig. His part in the revival is also a small one, and Todd says that is just the way he likes it.

“I am very comfortable with these smaller roles. It’s a whole different world when you’re a lead. You have to work red carpets, and do countless interviews and photo shoots too. I’m good where I am. Sometimes I even get recognized at restaurants and then I don’t have to wait so long for a table,” he laughs.
