Roger Rabbit turns 30: Kathleen Turner talks voicing Jessica Rabbit

Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the iconic private-eye flick that smeared live action and animation, will soon celebrate its 30th anniversary.

Hollywood film veteran Kathleen Turner voiced Jessica Rabbit back in 1988, and her cartoon counterpart still stands to be the most sexiest toon in history.

Kathleen, who made her big screen debut in the 1981 erotic thriller Body Heat, was one of Hollywood’s most sought-out actresses at the time, and remembers the part of Jessica Rabbit being perfect and hard to pass on.

“Because I was pregnant at the time and just had to show up and do her voice,” Kathleen says.

That doesn’t mean this was some Mickey Mouse job though. It wasn’t that easy.

“We killed the lines, but we had trouble getting her breathing right,” she says. “Jessica has such bosoms that I had to go back in and re-record the breathing to fit her… movement.”

Of Kathleen’s many roles, including her parts in films like Romancing the Stone, War of the Roses, Serial Mom and her Oscar-nominated role in Peggy Sue Got Married, the animated femme fatale with killer curves is the most memorable among fans.

Kathleen says that she is asked to autograph more images of Jessica Rabbit than glossies of herself.

“It’s true. Of all my roles, and I’ve had many and I’m still working, it’s all about Jessica,” Kathleen tells me. “Funny isn’t it?”
