Why is Shawn Mendes such a nice guy?

Shawn Mendes is one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but he hasn’t let his fame go to his head or tarnish his heart of gold.

The boy next-door from Pickering, Ontario remains humble and kind.

You hear it in his music like his hit “Treat You Better” where he plays the nice guy promising to be a Prince Charming to a woman who is unappreciated by her current lover.

But more importantly you see it in his actions.

Shawn has made many philanthropic efforts and supported multiple charities over the years.

The superstar raised $25,000 to build a school in Ghana with Pencils of Promise, a non-profit that builds schools and helps increase the quality of education in developing countries.

In 2017, Shawn teamed up with the Red Cross to raise funds for those affected by the devastating Puebla earthquake.

More recently, he aided other organizations like the Mercury Phoenix Trust, founded by Queen band members after the death of frontman Freddie Mercury to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the Young Survival Coalition, which supports young women diagnosed with breast cancer.

And that’s just naming a few.

Shawn is also generous with the time and attention he gives to his fans, posing for photos and signing autographs anytime he is spotted in public.

So what motivates Shawn to be a standup, all-around nice guy?

“I really believe in karma,” he says. “I make it a point to do good. I have a voice and the opportunity to make a difference and get other people to help. I try to be nice all the time and I do things that I want to happen back to me. I guess it’s kind of selfish in a way, but it’s important for everybody to be kind to everyone. It’s as simple as that.”

Shawn is currently on his self-titled world tour with Canadian stops including the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa on August 18, Montreal’s Bell Centre on August 20 and 21, and the Rogers Centre in Toronto on September 6. See more upcoming tour dates below.
