The Parlotones’ playlist
Johannesburg’s The Parlotones are living out their wildest dreams.
The four-piece rock band’s album sales have hit multi-platinum status, they sold-out 300 dates on a world tour and performed with the Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and Alicia Keys at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration concert.
Earlier this month, another fantasy materialized. The South Africans shared the stage with Coldplay not once, but twice, in Capetown and Johannesburg performing to crowds of over 50, 000.
“We really are living our dreams,” says frontman Kahn Morbee. “I’ve been a fan of Coldplay since Parachutes. They’re certainly a band that inspires us and a band that we admire. Playing with one of the biggest bands in the world is something musicians dream of and now we can tick it off and say we have.”
Next, The Parlotones have set out to win over the US and Canada with their first North American headlining tour.
“On this particular tour, we’re hoping to make new fans and we’re test driving some new material that we just finished recording and will be releasing next year,” Kahn says of their current goal.
The Parlotones’ forthcoming album Journey Through the Shadows can be expected in early 2012. In the meantime, the band shares five indispensable albums on their playlist.
Sigh No More – Mumford & Sons
Simple Math – Manchester Orchestra
The King Is Dead – The Decemberists
