Band of Horses’ playlist

The bar is high, but Band of Horses lead guitarist Tyler Ramsey isn’t stressing about their new album.

The new year brings good news for fans of Band of Horses.

The American rockers have revealed that their long-awaited album is almost ready. Word of this fifth studio recording was first announced over a year ago and their public has been eagerly anticipating the release ever since.

The finishing touches are currently being made by producer and Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle and by mixer Dave Fridmann who is known for his work with the Flaming Lips, MGMT and Spoon.

The band is comparing the record’s sound to that of their 2010 Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms, but lead guitarist Tyler Ramsey tells me that they don’t feel the stress of living up to the acclaimed album.

“There is of course always a little pressure in making a record, at least the pressure that you put on yourself,” Tyler says. “But really, we just have fun and remain relaxed about it all. It’s never an attempt to live up to anything prior to it. It’s just a new record.”

While we wait just a little longer, Tyler threw together a playlist of his favorite acts, and he urges you to check them out.

Doug Paisley

“I listen to Doug Paisley a lot. He makes interesting, country, singer-songwriter kind of stuff.”

.

Bonnie Prince Billy

“I listen to him when we’re touring. On the road, sometimes he is exactly what I need to hear.”

.

Bert Jansch

“Here is another great solo artist that I love. I put him on a lot.”

.

The Megaphonic Thrift

“A really cool band from Norway and definitely another favorite off the top of my head.”

.

Grandaddy

“We love frontman Jason Lytle. We’ve worked and toured with him. Spending time with Jason and seeing him play every night is something unbelievable.”

Band of Horses’ new album is expected early this spring. Follow the Horses on twitter and facebook for updates and tour info.
