Milk & Bone’s playlist

Montreal’s Milk & Bone (Camille Poliquin and Laurence Lafond-Beaulne) were among the hordes of acts at Rouyn-Noranda’s Festival de Musique Émergente (FME) on Labour Day weekend.

The electropop duo’s performance was a part of their festival circuit tour and ahead of a string of dates set for this fall.

“It’s been so much fun,” Camille says of their summer shows. “Especially the Festival d’été de Québec, I’m still living on that cloud right now.”

Camille is gushing over the set they played on the famed Plains of Abraham in Quebec City at the Festival d’été de Québec in July. The ladies were part of the fest’s monumental all-women line-up opening for Cyndi Lauper and Lorde. The two were also invited to join in on Cyndi’s iconic hit “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”

“Unreal,” Camille says is a word that sums up that event and their time at FME in Rouyn-Noranda.

Milk & Bone’s summer was also about growth. They say their festival gigs helped them evolve and gain confidence. You wouldn’t guess, but the Montrealers are still a very young band having released their debut album Little Mourning just three years ago.

“The indoor shows and the outside ones are two different things,” Laurence says.

Camille continues, “I feel we got confident this year playing festivals. It’s a very strange thing to do when you’re used to playing in venues and then you get to be outside and see people. It was a very big step for me. When we perform in venues, the crowd is completely in the dark.”

Festival season over now, so, Milk & Bone is back to playing indoors with their fall tour set to kick off in October.

To mark the end of summer, the duo made this playlist of tunes that were a big part of the soundtrack to their summer.

When I’m With Him – Empress Of
Camille: “Ugh, such a good song.”
Laurence: “Crazy track.”

New Light – John Mayer
Laurence: Is it too cheesy to go with John Mayer? Haha!
Camille: “Aw, yes. John Mayer. So good.”

Deep End – Lykke Li
Laurence: “I’m obsessed with the album so sad so sexy. For summer, I’ll go with ‘Deep End.’ Camille, I know you’ll agree.”
Camille: “100 percent. 100 percent.”

I Lied – Tove Styrke
On the Low – Tove Styrke
Camille: “We both agree on Tove Styrke. ‘I Lied’ and ‘On the Low.’”
Laurence: “This is a good top 4 of the artists we’re listening to this summer.”
