Walk the Moon’s playlist
A banging new single, a headlining tour and a North American run with rock music giants Muse. Life is good for Walk the Moon.
The critically acclaimed band, famous for their No.1 hit “Shut Up and Dance,” just kicked off their North American headlining tour in Louisville, Kentucky with shows booked in nearly 20 other cities including Montreal on January 29.
“I think our booking agent has something against us, sending us to Canada in the dead of winter, but we’re up for adventure,” laughs guitarist Eli Maiman, who called me to chat after spending a week rehearsing for the big outing.
In sync with the tour, Walk the Moon just released their brand-new single “Time Bomb,” which fans will get to hear at the live shows.
“We’re also breaking out songs that we haven’t played before and songs that we haven’t played in a long time like ‘Feels Good to Be High,’ off our album What If Nothing. The song is a dark funk tune and it’ll be fun to play,” Eli says.
Once Walk the Moon’s current trek wraps up, the guys will hit the road again for an arena tour of the US and Canada opening for Muse. Canadian stops on Muse’s Simulation Theory Tour include Toronto on March 28, Montreal on March 30 and Quebec City on March 31.
Eli speaks for the whole band when he says they’re excited and honored to be the special guests on the superstars’ upcoming tour.
“We’re huge Muse fans. We’ve butchered many Muse songs during soundcheck,” he laughs. “They’re going to be fun to watch every night on tour. They’re so good and they’re so epic. Muse is something we aspire to be.”
While Muse is definitely a band to look up to, Walk the Moon is doing pretty good in their own right.
The band has topped the charts and earned a slew of honors including two Billboard Music Awards and three American Music Award nominations.
As a nod to Walk the Moon’s breakout award-winning track, the song that started it all: “Shut Up and Dance,” and to highlight the release of their new upbeat stomper that is bound to be a hit: “Time Bomb,” I asked Eli to build a playlist of songs that make him want to just shut up and dance.
Livin’ On a Prayer – Bon Jovi
“I will really go in on some Bon Jovi. The key change in ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ is one of the greatest moments in music history.”
Friends – Francis and the Lights featuring Bon Iver and Kanye West
“I love this one and there’s an amazing dance scene in the video.”
Taste – Rhye
“‘Taste’ is minimal, sexy and wonderful.”
This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody) – Talking Heads
“‘This Must Be the Place’ is one of my favorite songs ever. As far as dance
tunes go, it’s not a stomper, but it has this mellow emotional vibe that makes
me dance no matter how many times I hear it.”
Mr. Brightside – The Killers
“Anything by The Killers is amazing. ‘Mr.Brightside’ is the classic of classics.”
There’s Still a Light in the House – Valley
“I’m just getting to know this Toronto band now. I love their song ‘There’s
Still a Light in the House,’ It feels really good. I just love it.”
