Jon Bernthal says goodbye to The Punisher
Netflix has canceled The Punisher.
The streaming giants announced that the series starring former Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal will not be returning for a third season.
The Punisher, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same, was axed alongside Jessica Jones, the last standing Marvel show on Netflix after the recent cancellations of Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
Jon made his debut as the Punisher (AKA Frank Castle) in the second season of Daredevil in 2016 before reprising his role in the spin-off released in November of 2017.
Naturally, Jon is saddened by the cancellation, not only on account of all the devastated fans, but also because of his attachment to his character, a vigilante hellbent on avenging his family’s murder.
“He means a lot to me,” Jon says. “I’m a husband and I’m a dad before anything else, so there’s a part of Frank that really resonates with me. It really makes me feel a lot when I think about that. He’s in my heart.”
Following the news, Jon took to Instagram to say his goodbyes.
RIP Frank Castle.
