MTV VMA nominee Charlie Puth predicts this year’s big winners
“See You Again” singer Charlie Puth and collaborator Wiz Khalifa are heading to the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
Their smash hit single commissioned for the Furious 7 soundtrack as a tribute to the late Paul Walker is up for Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Collaboration.
“See You Again” earned these two nods after selling over 3 million copies in the US alone and holding the no.1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks.
In addition to the MTV VMA noms, the tune’s success was recently applauded with three Teen Choice Awards including Choice Song from a Movie or TV Show.
And award season has only begun.
As the 2015 MTV VMAs near, Charlie predicts the winners in some of the major categories at the big event.
Video of the Year
- 7/11 – Beyonce
- Alright – Kendrick Lamar
- Bad Blood – Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar
- Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
- Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson
“What’s going to win Video of the Year? I think it’s going to be ‘Bad Blood’ for sure. I like Taylor. She’s been really nice to me and to new artists. Like the way she stood up to Apple when they weren’t going to pay new artists or any artists at all for their music. I wrote to her and said, ‘Thanks for sticking up for the new guys,’ and she was like, ‘No problem!’”
.
Best Female Video
- 7/11 – Beyonce
- Anaconda – Nicki Minaj
- Blank Space – Taylor Swift
- Elastic Heart – Sia
- Love Me Like You Do – Ellie Goulding
“Oh damn! There’s going to be some controversy around this. Maybe it should be Nicki Minaj, but for some reason I feel like they’re going to pull a fast one and give it to Sia just to get people to be like, ‘Why the hell did they do that?’ But Sia is amazing. Yeah, she’ll get it.”
.
Best Male Video
- Alright – Kendrick Lamar
- Chains – Nick Jonas
- Earned It – The Weeknd
- Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
- Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson
“It’s going to be Ed on this one. We’re both on Atlantic, so we’re label mates and have similar writing schemes. What’s cool about Ed is he’s like this normal dude who can just go on stage with his guitar, make it feel huge and sellout stadiums. He proves that it doesn’t have to be all bells and whistles when you perform.”
.
Artist to Watch Award
- Budapest – George Ezra
- Hold Back the River – James Bay
- Pendulum – FKA twigs
- Riptide – Vance Joy
- Trap Queen – Fetty Wap
“James Bay’s ‘Hold Back the River’ is so good. I think he’ll take that award. James is dope.”
.
Best Pop Video
- 7/11 – Beyonce
- Blank Space – Taylor Swift
- Sugar – Maroon 5
- Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran
- Uptown Funk – Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson
“Best Pop Video is definitely going to be ‘Blank Space.’ I mean it’s Taylor Swift.”
.
Best Rock Video
- Ship to Wreck – Florence and the Machine
- Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon
- Take Me to Church – Hozier
- Uma Thurman – Fall Out Boy
- Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High? – Arctic Monkeys
“The Best Rock Video will probably be ‘Uma Thurman’ by Fall Out Boy. I like Fall Out Boy a lot. They constantly reinvent their sound. It doesn’t always sound the same.”
.
Best Hip-Hop Video
- Alright – Kendrick Lamar
- Anaconda – Nicki Minaj
- I Don’t Fuck With You – Big Sean, E-40
- See You Again – Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth
- Trap Queen – Fetty Wap
“I’m going to have to say ‘See You Again.’ Ha! Ha! If we do win, I don’t know what I’m going to do. That means I have to go up there and accept the award with Wiz. That just sounds so insane to me.”
Watch for all the winners and performers at the 2015 VMAs hosted by Miley Cyrus on Sunday, August 30 on MTV.
