Kat Graham the scene stealer
The Vampire Diaries’ Kat Graham is a scene stealer.
The actor’s portrayal of super witch Bonnie Bennett on the outstanding hit series won that exact title at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards and she is up for Choice TV Scene Stealer: Female again this year.
Kat’s applauded role also places her in the running for 2015’s Choice TV: Best Chemistry with Diaries co-star Ian Somerhalder. That makes a total of 7 Teen Choice nominations for Kat since she was cast in 2009.
Take the awards out of the equation and the outcome remains the same. Kat says she gets a grand sense of fulfillment from playing the role of a headstrong sorceress.
“I’m all about female empowerment. I’m big on that, anything where I’m kicking a guy’s ass,” she laughs.
If you know anything about her Vampire Diaries gig, then you get why Kat loves it so.
“The character I play makes decisions regardless of what other people think,” Kat says. “She has a lot of conviction with everything that she does. I think that holds a lot of power.”
Before joining the cast of The Vampire Diaries, Kat actually got her big break in the music biz as a guest on will.i.am’s 2007 album Songs About Girls, including the lead single “I Got It from My Mama.”
A barely legal Kat joined the Peas’ on their 2007 Black Blue & You Tour and she thanks the multi-Grammy Award-winning superstars for showing her just how much power music has.
“It was definitely a learning experience,” the 25 year-old says of the eye-opening tour. “[Seeing] all these different people from all over the world, who didn’t even speak English, singing music was amazing. [It] was the first time I got to see how much of an impact music can have globally. It absolutely changed my life.”
